The Archimedes screw is an ancient hydraulic machine, often credited to the Greek inventor Archimedes, used to lift water from a low level to a higher one. It consists of a hollow cylinder or U-shaped trough surrounding a helical (spiral) blade. As the screw rotates, it scoops up water and moves it upward along the spiral, commonly powered by hand, animals, or motors.
