An electromagnetic terrella (Latin for "little earth") is a magnetized sphere used in laboratory experiments to simulate the Earth's magnetic field and its interaction with plasma or charged particles. Originally developed using natural magnets, modern versions use electromagnets within a vacuum chamber to recreate geophysical phenomena such as the aurora and the magnetosphere.
