Holland Circle, Handmade

This Holland Circle is handmade by Artisan Fred Cobbs.  Piece is made of soldered metal and copper.  A Holland Circle is a 17th-century brass surveying instrument used primarily in the Netherlands and Europe for measuring horizontal and vertical angles. Developed from a design by Gemma Frisius and popularized by Jan Dou in 1612, it consists of a compass mounted on a graduated circle, often used with a tripod for mapping and land measurement.
