This set of 3 Leyden Jars are handmade by Artisan Fred Cobbs. Piece has glass jar with soldered metal and copper on top. Piece is signed and dated by Artisan.
A Leyden jar is an early form of electrical capacitor, invented around 1745, used to store static electricity. It consists of a glass jar coated inside and outside with metal foil, with a metal rod passing through an insulated stopper to the inner lining. When charged by an electrostatic generator, it stores high-voltage energy that can be discharged, often creating a spark.
