This Redware Pottery Plate is handmade by Artisan Susan Pippen. Redware Plate Circa 1820-1870, In the 1800's redware potters abounded from New England to the Carolinas. They dug the red clay from the earth and refined it. The pieces were formed either on the wheel or drape molded over a plaster, wood, or clay form. Plates were commonly decorated with single or multi colored curvilinear designs or inscriptions. The pottery was fired outside in home made kilns dug into the ground with stones carefully placed for the right ventilation.
Artisan did this replica of the redware plate, this plate has X design on trim of plate. Piece is signed by Artisan.
